The Lovers
Our bones tell a story, one of which we cannot tell just by looking at us. One story is not a shared experience, but the human condition is. Since there’s no distinguishing features of what these people looked like, one can picture any kind of person having this body, this experience, this story.
This artwork is about transformation. The version of me who started this artwork, is not the same person who finished it. How does one finish an artwork when they are no longer expressing the same feelings they once had? The resonation may change, but that was a beginning of a story; the story has a different ending.
Just as ruins of The Lovers that were found together; they’ve transformed.
But something remains: Love.
Maybe what connects past and present self is love.
The flowers used in this piece are remnants from weddings and bereavements, in honor of loved ones. They are charged with that warm, loving energy.
The moss expresses the survival of love after a demise of something; a person, and idea, a version of yourself.
The sgraffito swirls embedded with gold paint describes the earth and how we adapt to its surroundings. We are connected to it, we attribute to it.
The feeling of self-love or love itself, transforming, transformed. In what ways do you resonate with this?
